Edwardian Lingerie Gown

In the 1900s it wasn't actually a "dress" to wear alone. Its name derived from the undergarment-like materials with which the dress was made: sheer cotton or linen inset with lace, all bleached vivid white, with a white or pastel silk slip underneath. Primarily worn from the early 1900s until 1914, these delicate gowns embodied docile and leisured Edwardian femininity. 

What you're seeing in your photo:

•  Fabric: cotton lawn / batiste / cambric — very fine, semi-sheer, crinkled in this version. The originals were Cotton Lace Petticoat, Edwardian Victorian Style, handmade, 1900s Lingerie Slip. 

•  Color: White was standard, but the palest pink existed too — there is a documented Antique 1900s Edwardian Dress Summer Lingerie Dress Wedding Gown With Irish Crochet Lace, Net Lace and Filet in the Palest Possible Pink. Pink was considered a bridal / bridal-trousseau variant. 

•  Trim: broderie anglaise eyelet, insertion lace, pin-tucks and little Valenciennes lace at the neckline — all the hallmarks of White Edwardian Eyelet and Lace Full Bridal Petticoat Nightgown - 1900s. 

•  Shape: sleeveless chemise top with lace-edged armholes and a slightly dropped empire, then a long skirt that flares into a deep flounce. The flounce on yours has horizontal rows of entredeux, eyelet bands and a scalloped eyelet ruffle — meant to show under a sheer lawn dress.
